Polar King walk-in freezers and coolers renew City of Houston fabrication certification

Oct 30, 2024

Polar King International, Inc., the leader in refrigerated and freezer walk-in units, is proud to announce that the company’s units have once again received fabrication certification from the City of Houston.

This renewal, granted by Section 1704.2.5.1 of the City of Houston Building Code, reaffirms Polar King’s dedication to manufacturing high-quality cold storage solutions built to withstand demanding conditions, says Polar King president Dave Schenkel.

“It goes without saying, but everyone at Polar King is delighted for the renewal of City of Houston approval,” Schenkel says. “This is a testament to the quality of our walk-in units, which are designed for the toughest environments. It’s important for our customers to know they’re getting the best product on the market when they invest in our equipment.”

Polar King, which was first certified in 2009, is now certified through Aug. 15, 2025. The registration number is 449.

Polar King manufactures electric outdoor walk-in freezer and refrigerator units delivered preassembled and only require a simple electrical connection. Each unit features a seamless fiberglass design that provides a continuous surface with rounded insulated corners to promote a safe and sanitary environment. The fiberglass insulation also ensures internal temperatures remain independent of external weather.

By exceeding the standards for compliance set forth by the City of Houston Building Code, Polar King walk-in units are approved for use in the toughest environments, including hurricanes, floods, and other severe weather events, Schenkel says.

In addition to its City of Houston certification, Polar King has maintained approvals from other strict building authorities, including Miami-Dade County, where certification is extended through 2027.
