Mar 15, 2023

Japanese Ocean Network Express (ONE) has just ordered ten 13,700 teu container ships, all of which are being built so that they are ready to operate on green methanol or ammonia. This further increases the proportion of container ships ordered this year that are ready for green fuels.

ONE is in the process of a major expansion and renewal of its fleet, which will bring the total capacity up to over 2 million. teu and thus bring the shipping company, which is today the world's seventh largest, very close to Evergreen Line in sixth place.

Before the order for ONE's new container ships became known, 62 percent of the orders this year were placed for container ships that will be able to sail on green methanol, according to a calculation from Alphaliner. And now that share is increasing even further.

LNG comes in second place with 30 percent, while conventionally powered ships make up just eight percent. - before the latest order from ONE is included.

ONE's new ships are to be delivered in 2025 and 2026, but there is no information about who will build them or what they will cost.
