Norfolk Southern: Detroit Livernois to transition to full-stacked operations

On March 16, 2026, the Detroit-Livernois Intermodal Facility will transition to a fully‑stacked operation. This change is designed to create a faster, more predictable terminal experience for your drivers and your freight. 

What’s changing

• Livernois will no longer be a start/stop location for chassis
• Drivers must ingate with a chassis, whether bare or mounted when picking up inbound shipments.
• If a driver ingates with an outbound shipment, the ingated shipment must first receive a lift-off, allowing the driver to reuse the chassis for the outgating move.
• Drivers must outgate with their chassis. Bobtail outgates will not be permitted.
