MSC early alert – Wildfire risks and potential supply chain impacts

May 16, 2025

Scope: Canada to/from USA & Puerto Rico

Effective Date: May 15th, 2025

MSC wants to proactively share an early update as evolving wildfire conditions pose both immediate and longer-term risks to the supply chain.

Wildfire activity in Western Canada is increasing, with growing risk levels and emerging disruptions. There are visible direct impacts in Manitoba, particularly around Winnipeg, where rail lines, highways, and nearby communities are being affected.

Elevated risk levels are also present along the Saskatchewan–Alberta border, as highlighted in recent regional fire maps.

Early signs of disruption are already evident, including impacts to train departures from Toronto. If conditions persist or deteriorate, there may be reduced train movements to and from key ports. MSC will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide formal updates as more information becomes available.
