MOL Is the 1st Japanese company to join the World Economic Forum’s ‘1000 Ocean Startups’ program

Apr 27, 2026

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced that MOL has become the first Japanese company to join the World Economic Forum’s ocean-sector program, “1000 Ocean Startups. Program participants are expected to leverage the WEF’s global network to support the growth and collaboration of ocean startups worldwide. MOL’s participation reflects its track record of investing in and partnering with ocean-sector startups, as well as its continued engagement in international discussions through the WEF.

1000OS is dedicated to fostering the growth of startups, promoting investment, and strengthening international collaboration, with the goal of creating 1,000 ocean-related startups by 2030. More than 60 organizations—primarily investors, financial institutions, and research institutions based in Europe and the United States—are currently participating in the program. MOL views its participation as an important opportunity to share the expertise and initiatives of Japan’s shipping and offshore industries with the international ocean-sector startup network and to further advance global collaboration.

Through its involvement in 1000OS, the MOL Group will continue to contribute to the development of the ocean-sector startup network by creating businesses with ocean startups and participating in international discussions aimed at visualizing and evaluating the impact of offshore businesses and technologies on the oceans and the environment. MOL will also provide insights from the perspective of a shipping company and a Japanese enterprise.
