LATAM Group leadership in air cargo in South America with a 30% market share

Mar 13, 2026

At the World Cargo Symposium (WCS), the leading global air cargo industry event being held in South America for the first time, the LATAM group presented the regional results of its cargo operations for 2025, consolidating its leadership with a 30% regional market share.

In 2025, the LATAM group’s cargo affiliates transported more than one million tons globally and generated revenues of US$1.7 billion, equivalent to 11.4% of the Group’s consolidated revenues, reaffirming the strategic relevance of the cargo business within its operating model.

Operational performance, international expansion, and the ability to adapt in a demanding logistics environment were recognized in 2025 when LATAM Cargo Group was named “Cargo Airline of the Year” by Air Cargo News, becoming the first South American airline in the past 20 years to receive this global distinction.

“Our leadership in South America is the result of deep market knowledge and a model that combines a dedicated freighter fleet with the capacity of the Group’s passenger aircraft. This integration allows us to offer real flexibility to customers, respond to the seasonality of each industry, and maintain efficient and reliable connectivity throughout the year,” said Santiago Álvarez, Chief Commercial Officer of LATAM Cargo Group.

This regional leadership was accompanied by the company’s largest-ever expansion between Europe and South America, with 15 weekly freighter frequencies and a 25% increase in capacity on that corridor. As a result, the Group consolidated the most extensive air cargo network between the two continents, strengthening both perishable exports and industrial and pharmaceutical imports.

A key player in South America’s most representative products

The LATAM group plays a fundamental role in the air transport of South America’s most emblematic export products. Salmon from Chile, fresh fruit from Chile, Peru, and Brazil, and flowers from Colombia and Ecuador are among the main products the company transports worldwide.

As a specialist in perishable cargo, the group prioritizes cold chain integrity from origin to final destination, ensuring consistent quality standards and compliance in highly demanding markets.

In flowers, the Group transported approximately 250,000 tons from Colombia and Ecuador, maintaining a leading position in one of the most significant trade flows of this product between South America and the United States. This position was reaffirmed at the close of the 2026 Valentine’s season, when LATAM led flower shipments by air from both countries to the United States and Europe for the fourth consecutive year.

Additionally, from Chile, the company transported close to 80,000 tons of salmon, primarily to the United States, thereby consolidating a leadership position in this strategic segment, with approximately 50% of the volume exported by air. In fruit, the Group moved more than 70,000 tons from Chile, Peru, and Brazil, reinforcing its presence in the main intercontinental corridors.

Imports focused on high-value cargo

Regarding imports into South America, the main products transported included industrial inputs, machinery, e-commerce shipments, and pharmaceuticals, among others. The segment recorded a 7% increase in volume compared to 2024. In particular, the pharmaceutical segment grew 43% in transported volume in 2025, and the specialized network reached 221 active routes under CEIV Pharma certification.

With these results, the LATAM group consolidates its leadership as the leading air cargo operator in South America, supported by a broad network, strong regional presence, and a flexible combination of dedicated freighter fleet and passenger aircraft capacity, connecting the region with the world’s main international markets.
