
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. is pleased to announce that a joint venture held a naming ceremony for a 174,000 m3 LNG vessel for QatarEnergy at a HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. facility on July 14. The vessel was named HALWAN after a source of water in Qatar.
The vessel is the ninth in a series of 12 LNG vessels that the joint venture has been building for QatarEnergy, and it is the second of three vessels for which “K” LINE group is responsible for ship management. QatarEnergy is the world’s largest LNG provider and will assign the vessel to the global transport of LNG. The vessel is equipped with X-DF 2.1 iCER and an Air Lubrication System which will contribute to the reduction of GHG emissions and environmental impact by lowering fuel consumption in operation.
In its Medium-Term Management Plan published in May 2022, “K” LINE has positioned the LNG business as a top priority area in its future investments. “K” LINE will continue to respond to the diverse needs of its customers to expand its long-term contracts and accommodate the growing demand for energy.
