The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) celebrates the arrival of Maersk’s Seaspan Montevideo, one of the first vessels to call JAXPORT as part of the new Gemini Cooperation. The Gemini Cooperation North America Shuttle service is a partnership between ocean carriers Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, connecting Jacksonville, Florida, directly to Cartagena, Colombia – a major transshipment hub – and the Gemini global network.

The service calls the port’s Blount Island Marine Terminal weekly, with SSA Atlantic providing stevedoring services. Transshipment calls include ports in Asia, Europe, the west coast of South America, Central America, Oceania and the Caribbean.

With 290 vessels and a combined capacity of 3.4 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units or containers), the Gemini network offers significant reach and flexibility for shippers with its 26 mainline ocean services and 32 dedicated shuttle services.

“Our new connectivity through Gemini provides even more options for customers seeking to move cargo through the Southeast US,” said JAXPORT Chief Commercial Officer Robert Peek. “The service offers flexible transshipment, access to new markets, and competitive transit times backed by Gemini’s schedule reliability.”

The port’s commercial team presented Maersk leadership with a commemorative plaque to celebrate the vessel’s visit to Jacksonville. Leadership from JAXPORT and Maersk were joined by representatives from port partners Primark, V.Alexander, and John S. James Co. who saw a firsthand look at the port’s operations and a meet-and-greet aboard the vessel.

Located in the heart of the Southeast U.S., JAXPORT is Florida’s No. 1 container port by volume and one of the nation’s top vehicle-handling ports. JAXPORT offers fast and efficient vessel operations with a 47-foot deepwater shipping channel, two-way ship traffic, and same-day access to 98 million U.S. consumers.
