Implementation of UK customs and regulations

Dec 16, 2020

The UK officially left the EU on 31 January 2020 with a Transition Period ending on 31 December 2020, after which entry and exit summary declarations shall be required on UK trade. UK Customs will not be part of either the EU Customs Area nor the EU Single Market as of 01/01/2021.

Vessels departing from Non-European countries and arriving at UK ports shall be subject to Advanced Manifest System (AMS) Declaration to the United Kingdom Customs; including all units with local discharge, Transhipment, or FROB via the UK and Northern Ireland must be transmitted to UK Customs at least 24 hours prior to loading.

It will become mandatory to include the EORI numbers in the Shipping Instructions for the Consignee and First Notify Party(s) for shipments to Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

EORI stands for Economic Operator Registration and Identification.  Effective January 1, 2021 for shipments to and from Great Britain, you will need to obtain an EORI number that begins with ‘GB.’ For shipments to and from Northern Ireland, you will need to obtain and EORI that begins with ‘XI.’

EORI is a unique identification code which is used from companies to perform Customs registration.

You may obtain an EORI number at GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Every UK business importing/exporting goods to/from the UK will require an EORI number issued by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

EORI will be mandatory to include on Master shipping Instructions for export shipments for both the Consignee and Notify party to load cargo.
