Hapag Lloyd update on demurrage and detention charges in the US

Jul 31, 2024

Effective September 1, 2024, Hapag-Lloyd will start applying demurrage and detention charges on a calendar day basis in the United States* after the expiration of the free time. This means that every scheduled terminal closure day including weekends will be chargeable. Unscheduled closures due to congestion or unforeseen events will still be considered as days where gate activities were shutout and will not be charged.

Free time will continue to be calculated based on working days, according to the operating schedules of the respective locations.
