Hanstholm harbor takes on the world’s largest

May 10, 2023
The world's largest electric crane has been delivered to Hanstholm harbor.

It is the strongest, tallest, and most expensive of its kind that has ever been purchased by a Danish company. And the electric crane from Dutch Huisman will be put to work at the test center in Østerild, where it will assist with the installation of the very largest wind turbines.

It has been delivered to Hanstholm Harbor as a gigantic collection set. But when assembled, it becomes the world's largest electric crane. The crane was acquired by BMS Heavy Cranes and, according to the company's CFO, Jesper Lund Hedegaard is unique in being able to lift 1,200 tonnes to a height of 225 meters.

"We actually have a project in 2023-24 where we have to lift so high - it is to help build the world's largest wind turbine at Denmark's test center for wind turbines," Jesper Lund Hedegaard tells Nordania Leasing, which has financed the new acquisition.

The crane, which was produced in the Czech Republic and shipped from Rotterdam as an assembly kit, must now be transported to Østerild, where it must be ready for operation after the summer holidays, writes the local media Ligeher. nu, Thy Mors.

According to the media, both Vestas and Siemens Gamesa will arrive at the test center in the coming weeks with their own version of a new large nacelle.
