Hannibal boosts its intermodal logistics: Northern Europe and Southern Italy are increasingly connected

Dec 04, 2024

Hannibal, the Multimodal Transport Operator of the Contship Italia Group, announces the start of a direct connection between Melzo (Milan) and Marcianise (Caserta), operating from December 3, 2024. The new intermodal service responds to the growing demand for sustainable and efficient logistics solutions, further strengthening Contship’s strategic position in the European logistics landscape.

“The new service allows us to connect Southern Italy and Northern Europe, taking advantage of our services linking our hub in Melzo and the Netherlands. We are committed to offering transport solutions tailored to our customers’ needs. Our flexibility in transporting a wide range of units and our value-added services, such as warehousing and transshipment of goods on trucks, allows us to adapt to the specific requirements of each shipment” said Andrea Spagnuolo, Sales & Business Development Manager of Contship Italia. “In addition, we can integrate our offer by guaranteeing efficient customs operations with containers on the ground, as well as first and last-mile transportation by truck”.

The Melzo Marcianise connection includes two weekly round trips between the Milan Rail Hub in Melzo and the Marcianise-Maddaloni terminal. Departures from Melzo are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while those from Marcianise will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays. From the first quarter of 2025, an increase in frequency to three connections per week is planned, to meet the growing demand for efficient and sustainable transport.

With a capacity of 32 units per train, the service will accept all types of containers thanks to low-loading wagons. Rail traction will be provided by Oceanogate, the Contship Group operator specializing in rail freight transport. This new development consolidates Rail Hub Milan’s position as a strategic gateway to Northern Europe and the main Mediterranean ports, further strengthening the Contship Group’s intermodal logistics network.

This new project not only enriches Hannibal’s offer but also confirms the Contship Group’s role as a reference partner for companies wishing to optimize their logistics flows.
