Gilmore, Daifuku and ICM partner to install Concourse A baggage handling system at Denver International Airport

Mar 03, 2026

Industrial Constructors/Managers, Inc. (ICM), a licensed industrial contractor and Gilmore Construction, one of Colorado’s largest minority-owned firms, announced that they have been awarded a contract to install a new Daifuku baggage handling system in Concourse A at Denver International Airport (DEN).

Gilmore serves as the general and prime contractor, with Daifuku as the OEM and BHS integrator and ICM as the lead mechanical subcontractor. ICM is responsible for installing thousands of feet of new conveyor systems and eight makeup units from Daifuku, a premier supplier and integrator of baggage handling systems. The team will integrate and automate a baggage system as part of Concourse A’s expansion, from the center core to module ten west. When completed in the second quarter of 2027, the system will simplify bag movement operations, helping to reduce errors and improve baggage handling efficiency.

“ICM’s work includes structural steel framing and installation of the baggage system, building on an earlier Concourse A and B project that improved bag transfer and sorting between the tarmac and the basement,” said Jamie Hodges, executive vice president at ICM. “We’re excited to continue to build on that progress with Gilmore as general contractor and Daifuku as the BHS integrator—partners that are equally committed to quality and excellence.”

The project is being built west to east, beginning with the installation of structural steel framing, followed by the installation of conveyor equipment. Construction is being phased, with modules five through ten scheduled for completion first, followed by modules one through four.

“During pre-construction, BIM modeling and field verification revealed a major constructability issue, prompting a collaborative team redesign,” said Steve King, construction manager of aviation at Gilmore. “Quick thinking and innovative problem-solving resolved the issue, showcasing the team’s commitment to getting the job done right the first time. This project underscores the strength of the partnership between Gilmore, Daifuku and ICM, whose combined expertise ensures both efficiency and quality at every stage.”

“We are pleased to partner with ICM on this important project”, said Navwant Thakur, senior project manager at Daifuku. “Integrating and automating DEN’s baggage handling system will help Denver International Airport reach its vision to serve 100 million passengers by 2030.”
