Flow Labs launches Optimus LT, a lighter, streamlined AI solution for signal timing optimization

Sep 20, 2024

Built on Flow Labs’ successful Optimus technology, Optimus LT is a streamlined, cost-effective signal optimization platform designed for agencies, consultants, and cities who want access to the benefits of AI, but have limited access to data, infrastructure, and extensive budgets.

Flow Labs, a transportation software technology leader specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) that makes roads cleaner, clearer and safer, today launched the most cost-effective AI-powered signal optimization platform, Optimus LT. Based on Flow Labs’ revolutionary Optimus technology, Optimus LT is a lighter, streamlined version providing corridor signal timing recommendations for agencies and engineering firms with limited budgets and limited access to high end data.

Many agencies and city public works departments across the country lack access to Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM) data, connectivity, and field study resources, making it extremely difficult to address signal timing issues and congestion. Optimus LT, however, utilizes high-penetration probe data to deliver comprehensive signal insights at a low cost.

Flow Labs accomplishes this by partnering with OEMs, GPS manufacturers, data aggregators and insurance companies to capture real-time information directly from vehicles, achieving an unprecedented CV penetration rate of up to 43% of all vehicles in the U.S.—significantly higher than the industry standard of 3-10%.

Primarily designed for corridors, Optimus LT enables engineers to assess current roadway conditions and provides signal timing recommendations. Whether optimizing for peak traffic periods or fine-tuning offsets to increase bandwidth, control speeds, or establish directional flow, Optimus LT provides clear recommendations and explanations, helping engineers understand the impacts of their decisions. Optimus LT doesn’t require any hardware installation and can be up and running in minutes. A corridor scan can be completed in 30 minutes or less and with these insights, agencies can understand corridor potential and capacity before embarking on a full signal timing project.

“For the first time, agencies with limited budgets and infrastructure can solve traffic congestion nightmares without breaking the bank,” said Jatish Patel, CEO of Flow Labs. “At Flow Labs, we recognize the traffic management landscape is changing at unprecedented speed, and we’re committed to offering AI solutions to ensure no agency gets left behind.”
