The first development at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport’s (CVG) Global Logistics Park has broken ground. The 4.5 acres of aeronautical property is being leased by F&F LLC for the development of an 80,000 square-foot cargo facility with airside access to handle current and future general air freight needs. The facility will include cargo processing space, associated mezzanine offices, and a minimum of 18 truck docks. The site is expected to be complete in early 2025.
“CVG Airport has been a great partner for many years now, and when it comes to expanding your business and embracing new types of businesses, there is no better place to grow,” said Fred Murphy, Chairman & CEO, FEAM Aero. “This new development makes a lot of sense to us as we continue to expand our operations at CVG. With FEAM Aero's deep roots in the aviation industry and our growing presence in cargo maintenance and support, this facility will enable us to further streamline operations and meet the increasing demands of cargo logistics. We are excited about what this development means for the future of air cargo and our ongoing relationship with the airport.”
“In recent years, air cargo has been booming at CVG,” said Candace McGraw, CEO, CVG. “We are the only dual cargo hub airport in North America, and as we look to continue to diversify the airport’s capabilities, partnering with F&F LLC made sense to launch development for general air freight activities at our Global Logistics Park. The groundbreaking of this development is a significant milestone in our vision to create a self-sufficient aviation ecosystem at CVG.”
“This project represents a significant opportunity to leverage our expertise in building infrastructure that meets the demands of today’s evolving logistics landscape,” said Frank Tamanko, president of Bascon Inc. “By partnering with CVG, we are not only contributing to the growth of the airport but also providing the necessary facilities that will drive innovation and support cargo operations for years to come.”
CVG is home to Amazon Air’s Hub and DHL Express’ Global Superhub for the Americas. Express cargo currently makes up the majority of cargo volume at the airport. The Global Logistics Park is a key component of the airport’s vision to diversify and grow general air freight activity. It has many attributes with direct access to CVG’s airfield, separation from passenger traffic, and distinct operating areas dedicated solely to enhancing efficiency and security for cargo handling and multi-modal distribution.
More than $33 million of federal infrastructure funds were invested in rebuilding the airside ramp and more than $3.6 million in Kentucky site development funds were allocated to the project. The combination of public and private investments in and near the area is creating momentum for continued cargo growth at CVG.
The partnership will commence with Unilode providing ULD management to MJets Air Sdn Bhd, the commercial air cargo unit within MAC.
