The FAA’s Office of Airports has issued a Q&A document, clarifying the Grant Assurance 40 (Access to Leaded Aviation Gasoline) requirements as established by Section 770 of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. Released May 19, 2025, the Q&A is intended to support airport sponsor compliance during the transition to unleaded avgas and aligns with a recent public notice of modifications to the Airport Improvement Program grant assurances. Grant Assurance 40 prohibits airports from restricting 100LL availability until an alternative fuel meets the established criteria.
Most importantly, the Q&A document explains that no unleaded fuel currently meets the criteria as established in Section 770. The agency emphasized a compliance approach focused on education, oversight, and complaint resolution, with civil penalties for violations.
Asia-Pacific remains one of the fastest-growing aviation markets, driven by fleet expansion, increasing aircraft leasing activity, and strong passenger demand.
