CTAA urges Senate to use existing FTA funding formulas

Jul 17, 2020

On behalf of it's more than 1,400 members nationwide, the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) submitted a letter to Senate leadership regarding the importance of using the existing FTA formulas -- including Section 5310 -- for any subsequent transit-related supplemental appropriations.

"As Congress prepares another round of supplemental appropriations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, public transit systems will be key recovery contributors,” said CTAA Executive Director Scott Bogren. “But many operators are struggling financially and need additional assistance to continue their essential services in communities around the nation.”

CTAA and its members believe that it is essential that federal transit assistance provided through any supplemental appropriation be directed through and follow the Federal Transit Administration's statutory formulas for urban public transit (Section 5307), rural and tribal public transit (Section 5311) and specialized transportation for our nation's vulnerable elders and individuals with disabilities (Section 5310).

“Using the FTA funding formulas will assure that transit moves quickly to get us all through the worst of this pandemic,” said Bogren.
