Mar 11, 2026

COSCO SHIPPING North America has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, outlining the company’s environmental, social and governance performance and progress across its operations in North America.

“Our 2025 Sustainability Report reflects our continued commitment to responsible growth and transparent corporate citizenship,” said Chen Zheyu, chairman of COSCO SHIPPING North America. “Our sustainability strategy is directly aligned with what matters most to our customers -efficiency, reliability, and long-term resilience. This report demonstrates steady, measurable progress and reinforces our commitment to responsible growth in the North American market.”

The report highlights progress across several key areas, including emissions reduction, employee development and corporate governance.

In 2025, the company achieved a 96.32% shore power compliance rate at major North American ports, helping reduce emissions from vessels while at berth. The company also reported 4.9% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions from its trucking segment, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and adopt cleaner transportation technologies. COSCO SHIPPING North America continued expanding sustainability initiatives across its logistics operations, including the introduction of electric vehicles within its drayage fleet and investments in energy-efficient terminal and warehouse equipment.

The company also received several sustainability-related recognitions in 2025, including the Sapphire Award from the Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Program, which recognizes shipping companies that voluntarily reduce vessel speeds along the California coast to protect endangered marine species and reduce emissions.

In addition to environmental initiatives, the report outlines progress in workforce development and diversity. Women now represent 56% of the company’s workforce in the United States, and employees completed an average of 37.44 hours of training during the reporting period.

The company also highlighted governance measures, noting that external directors account for 66.67% of its board, supporting oversight and accountability across its operations.

As global supply chains continue to evolve, COSCO SHIPPING North America remains focused on delivering dependable service while reducing environmental impact. The company’s sustainability strategy emphasizes collaboration with customers, ports, and industry partners to support a more efficient and resilient maritime sector.
