CMA CGM Group launches Phnom Penh Express Barge service

The CMA CGM Group, a global leader in sea, land, air, and logistics solutions, has launched the Phnom Penh Express Barge, the first weekly fixed-schedule service connecting Cambodia and Vietnam. This new service is managed by CMA CGM Inland Services (CCIS) through the GIL1 joint venture, the Group’s global inland logistics arm, present in more than 30 countries.

The maiden service sailed off this morning from Gemalink terminal in Cai Mep (25% owned by CMA CGM Group), Vietnam to Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The shuttle service provides shippers with reliable and efficient transportation between the two terminals.

The Phnom Penh Express Barge ensures seamless cargo movements between PPAP and Gemalink terminals, enabling shippers to connect to CMA CGM Group’s comprehensive network to and from the US. Each week, three CMA CGM long-haul services call at Gemalink in southern Vietnam: the JAX, SUEZ and PEX3 services, linking key destinations along the Transpacific route. Through the SGS service, shippers can connect to Europe and other destinations via our regional transshipment hub in Singapore.

CMA CGM Group has been present in Vietnam since 1989, with a robust network of five offices in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Haiphong, Danang, and Quy Nhon, staffed by over 200 employees. With 29 weekly mainline services across seven ports in Vietnam, the group connects major global destinations via an extensive intermodal network powered by CEVA Logistics. The Group recently announced it will build and deploy for operation a brand-new zero emissions inland transport solution in Vietnam: a 100% green electricity barge coupled with dedicated charging infrastructures supplied by a new solar farm at Gemalink terminal in Cai Mep.

Esra Bora, General Director, CMA CGM Vietnam said, “The Phnom Penh Express Barge service showcases the strength of CMA CGM’s integrated ecosystem as the service leverages Gemalink, its global shipping network, and end-to-end logistics solutions through CCIS and GIL. This synergy allows CMA CGM to offer unmatched efficiency and reliability; further demonstrating our commitment to support the growth of our customers.”
