CMA CGM Gabon | Implementation of Country Carbon Contribution

Apr 29, 2025

As part of ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions, the Gabonese Council of Ministers adopted in Jan. 2025 a decree impacting maritime and air transport.

Its purpose is to thoroughly control emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) for all actors operating on the Gabonese territory.

A National Sovereign Carbon Registry will follow up and analyze emissions, and a new Carbon Contribution paid to the AGADEV will help financing environmental projects.

In this regard, we wish to inform you of the implementation of a surcharge related to carbon emission reduction, applicable as follows:

Effective April 15th, 2025, loading date (May 15th, 2025 for cargo ex North America and Latin America)

- Scope: Shipments to/from Libreville, Gabon

- Cargo: all

- Amount: USD 9 per TEU

- Code: TAX44 (Country Carbon Contribution at Destination) / TAX43 (Country Carbon Contribution at Origin)
