Athens International Airport joins Pharma.Aero

Jun 12, 2024

Pharma.Aero, the global collaborative platform for excellence in healthcare logistics, announces Athens International Airport (AIA) as its newest member. AIA is the largest international airport in Greece and the largest and busiest airport in the Balkans region.

Trevor Caswell, Chair of Pharma.Aero, extends a warm welcome to Athens International Airport, stating, “By integrating Athens International Airport into our collaborative network, Pharma.Aero not only acknowledges the airport's regional importance but also strengthens its footprint in the Mediterranean region. We are thrilled to collaborate and leverage our industry expertise to drive innovative projects that yield substantial value for our industry and enhance access to healthcare for people worldwide.”

Athens International Airport has received its IATA CEIV Pharma certification in 2023. Since 2016, AIA has been the first carbon-neutral airport in Greece and, as of 2019, through its initiative “Route 2025”, it has announced its official commitment to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2025, 25 years ahead of the target of 2050 set by ACI Europe. Also, it is the first European airport to launch multi-modal flows in the form of a combination of maritime, road, and air traffic.

Cargo Development at Athens International Airport (AIA) oversees all freight and mail handling activities, acting as the coordinator and facilitator of the airport’s cargo community and spearheading new developments.

Lina Palli, IATA CEIV Pharma Coordinator for the Athens Cargo Community, said “At AIA we strongly believe in collaboration and synergies. By joining Pharma.Aero we will not only join an international network of experts and gain valuable knowledge that we can transfer to our local partners, but we will also support Pharma.Aero’s important mission of promoting a seamless pharmaceutical supply chain.”

Pharma.Aero serves as a collaborative platform bringing together Life Sciences and MedTech manufacturers, pharma-certified cargo communities, including airports, airlines and other logistics providers to drive positive change by addressing current challenges and future trends in the transportation of healthcare products.
