On March 30, 2024, HMRC will formally close the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system for exports, and businesses will need to declare all goods through the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) from this date.
At 10:00 am GMT on Tuesday January 9, 2024, Agency Sector Management (ASM) and the British International Freight Association (BIFA) will be running a joint webinar to help businesses with their preparations for this final migration.
Attendance will be limited to BIFA members and users of ASM’s Customs clearance software, Sequoia.
The seminar has been organised to help address any concerns those members and users may still have about their readiness to complete the final switch to the new system, and to provide companies with advice and guidance about the implementation process.
Sharon Greer, ASM general manager says: “The seminar will provide an important update on the final preparations businesses need to make in order to ensure that their final migration to CDS for exports is successful.
“We will also outline and discuss the revised timescale for the migration.”

Robert Windsor, BIFA’s member policy and compliance officer, added: “We strongly recommend attendance at this event which will greatly assist BIFA members and Sequoia ASM users with their migration to the new system.
“But any member or user that wishes to attend the webinar must register in advance, and I would encourage them to do so as soon as possible.”
