Antonov Airlines has completed the transatlantic transportation of the HALO (Habitation and Logistics Outpost) module – the first component of the future lunar space station Gateway. The delivery was carried out in collaboration with international logistics partner FAGIOLI S.P.A.
The HALO module was transported aboard Antonov’s AN-124-100 aircraft from the Thales Alenia Space facility in Turin, Italy, to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Arizona, USA. The module will now undergo testing at Northrop Grumman’s facility in Gilbert, Arizona, before final integration with the Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Due to the size and weight of the cargo – over 55 tons and more than 4 meters in height – Antonov Airlines utilized its custom-designed low-profile loading ramp in combination with external cranes to ensure safe loading and unloading.
“Antonov Airlines is proud to contribute to this landmark international mission. With decades of experience and specialized equipment for oversized aerospace cargo, our team ensured safe and timely delivery,” said Maksym Bogatov, Commercial Executive at Antonov Airlines. “We are honored to support global partners in projects that shape the future of space exploration.”
The AN-124-100’s unmatched technical capabilities make it the aircraft of choice for transporting complex aerospace components around the world.
