Container ship attacked in Strait of Hormuz

A container ship, 1700 TEU ‘Safeen Prestige’, was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire, according to container shipping analyst Lars Jensen.
Jensen said in a LinkedIn post: “Crew has abandoned the ship, no injuries reported. The vessel is operated by Global Feeder Systems, which is owned by Abu Dhabi Ports Group. They also sent “SSF Leo” through the Strait yesterday.”

Jensen also reported: “An oil tanker was hit by a kamikaze drone boat, bringing the count to 6 tankers and 1 container vessel hit in the Hormuz crisis thus far.” He added that: “Maersk’s new overview of ports in the region shows operations are suspended in Salalah and Bahrain.”

In addition, “Hapag-Lloyd has now suspended all booking acceptance to ports in the Gulf. They also have a PSS of 1000 USD/40’ from China/Taiwan/Hong Kong to the Gulf, applicable also to bookings already issued but which have not yet shipped. MSC declared End of Voyage for all cargo bound for the Gulf. Cargo will be discharged at the next port. Shippers resume all responsibility for the cargo, and MSC will charge 800 USD per container for this. “
