ADVA opens Hong Kong operation and expands its offering to include marine cargo with appointment of underwriting director

Managing General Agent ADVA Underwriting (ADVA) has announced its expansion into the marine cargo sector and appointed Joanne Chan as its Underwriting Director-Asia Pacific.

Joanne will initially focus on marine cargo, bringing the welcome addition of capacity and insight into the Asian market after a period largely characterised by a contraction of the number of active players in the space.

Chan said, “I am looking forward to working with my many friends and colleagues in the market as we work to expand the company’s product range to include marine cargo. We intend to proactively contribute to the growth and development of the market.”

Joanne Chan brings over 40 years of marine underwriting experience in the Asian market to the role. Prior to joining ADVA, Joanne held senior roles in the marine insurance industry at XL Catlin, Zurich Insurance, AXA Corporate Solutions, Allianz and CIGNA Insurance. Joanne has chaired and served on several committees for IUMI and other market bodies. In these roles, she has acted as a strong advocate for diversity and the development and advancement of leadership for women in the marine insurance industry. She is based in Hong Kong.
