AAL Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) announcement

Mar 12, 2026

Due to recent geopolitical developments and the resulting exponential increase in global bunker prices, an Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) is being applied to all cargo carried by the AAL fleet as per the following:

  • ASIA - AMERICAS: USD $20.00 per freight ton (FRT)
  • ASIA - EUROPE: USD $20.00 per freight ton (FRT)
  • ASIA - AUSTRALIA: USD $10.00 per freight ton (FRT)
  • EUROPE - ASIA: USD $10.00 per freight ton (FRT)
  • ALL DIRECTIONS WORLDWIDE: USD $150.00 per TEU

This EFS applies to all bookings loaded on or after 13 March 2026, except for US-bound cargo for which the EFS will become effective 12 April 2026 in accordance with regulatory notice requirements.

Also note:

  • Cargo already under contract with an existing bunker escalation clause is excluded.
  • This EFS is implemented in addition to all existing surcharges and adjustments, including the regular BAF applicable to some of our services, which remain in full force.
  • Carrier reserves the right to review and adjust the EFS at any time in line with market developments.
